Government announce £18 million funding to drive UK house building
Housing Minister, Gavin Barwell has announced today (11 November 2016) a fund to speed up house building on large construction sites.
From today, councils can bid for a share of this ‘capacity fund’ to tackle planning issues that can prevent builders from getting on site and starting work quickly.
Nationally, this funding will help to accelerate delivery of up to 800,000 homes and infrastructure on larger sites throughout England. At a regional level, the announcement includes a wider package of measures to increase the number of homes in the local areas of South Yorkshire, Grimsby and Cleethorpes, West Midlands, Blackburn and Burnley and Merseyside, to back a new garden town in Kent and additional financial support for existing garden towns in the UK.
Housing Minister, Gavin Barwell confirmed:
“It will primarily be aimed at large sites of 1,500 units or more, and Housing Zones, which support the development of brownfield land. Developers will also be able to apply for funding from the Home Building Fund, which is making £3 billion available to house builders.”
